05/11/2007Units were sent to a reported house fire on S.R. 205 at approximately 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon. Incoming fire units were reporting smoke was visible from 1 to 2 miles out. At the same time, Allen County 9-1-1 was receiving reports that the house was further into Allen County, so Huntertown and LaOtto units were dispatched.
Fire 201 arrived to find heavy smoke and slight fire visible coming from a 2-story wood structure and asked that Huntertown and LaOtto units continue with their reponse.
Crews began their attack on the second story only to find heavy smoke, slight heat conditions and very little fire. Exterior units then noticed that fire was pushing heavily out of the peak of the house. A massive effort to remove ceiling and get to the hidden fire began for interior crews as well as exterior crews attempting more ventilation procedures.
It took firefighters approximately 1-hour to bring the fire under control and only one slight injury was reported when a roof partially collapsed on a firefighter inside the structure.
