09/23/06Churubusco, Huntertown and LaOtto fire departments were dispatched to a house fire at approximately 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning on Wesley Chapel Rd. in Allen County.
A fire unit from Huntertown arrived shortly after the dispatch and reported a working mobile home fire.
A crew from Churubusco and Huntertown arrived almost simultaneously and found heavy smoke and fire to the rear of the structure in a bedroom. Both crews made a swift and quick attack knocking the fire down in just a few short minutes. LaOtto fire department was then disregarded and returned to service.
An extensive overhaul was completed with the house receiving heavy smoke, fire and water damage. A few animals that lived at the residence were also saved by firefighters.
At approximately 2:00 p.m. that same afternoon, Churubusco was sent back to the same residence on a rekindle. Pump 203 arrived first to find the mobile home fully engulfed and requested a pump and tank from Huntertown fire.
Churubusco was short on manpower at this point and utilized two hand lines with one person on each, while the incident commander (Roger Bennett) assisted not only with tactical operations but water supply as well.
Huntertown arrived to assist with the second overhaul and all units cleared the scene at approximately 3:30. The second fire is considered suspicious according to command units on the scene.
No injuries were reported at either incident.
