Tragic double fatal accident

09/12/06

Churubusco units were dispatched to Bryie Road between McDuffee and Madden Rd at approximately 19:45 Tuesday night on a vehicle accident with injuries.

Chief Kris Bair arrived to find one car involved with wires down. He then transmitted "rush traffic" advising he had three possible parties ejected and all were a condition "C". He then requested both Lutheran Air and Samaritan helicopters to fly.

Rescue units arrived and made their way into a cornfield paralleling the downed powerlines to try and reach the patients. Units were advised that the lines were still possibly hot and to use extreme caution.

A teenage boy was found to be very incoherent and in critical condition. Fire units pulled him to safety and took him to awaiting paramedics. The same crew then returned to evaluate the other patients. A teenage girl was pronounced DOA and another male was also pronounced as such.

The male subject was a good samaritan who stopped to help and came into contact with the downed lines, at which time he succomed to his injuries.

Another female passing motorist was taken to a local hospital in fair condition after receiving injuries from possible electrical shock.

The accident is still under investigation.
