The Ft. Wayne Fire Department does respond to other agencies at their request beyond Allen County, but our department is usually never in need of assistance from Ft. Wayne. However they are equipped with certain pieces of apparatus and equipment that other surrounding departments are not, so it is a possibility.

How Does 9-1-1 know who to send to my house?

The 9-1-1 system is set up so that your address correlates with boundaries set by townships and coverage area.

When your call comes in to the dispatcher, a list of fire, police and EMS departments is displayed on the screen. For fire departments it might show who is to respond 1st, 2nd and/or 3rd. It all depends on the system your county dispatch center uses.

There are however, some areas that overlap and two fire departments might be sent to your residence at the same time.
